THE AMALFI COAST |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
The coast is one of the classic attractions of the Bay of Salerno: some people even see it exclusively as a road, the most enchanting road in the world.
Starting off from Positano and arriving at Vietri by the sea, the capital of ceramics, the coast road is a real "dream track" for anyone who has a sensitive eye and a mind open to the messages of civilization. It is all the more enjoyable for it is studded with little towns where life, or rather the art of living, is beyond comparison, to the extent that, when speaking of Amalfi, a poetess coined the term "Amalfilia" denoting the love of the little town that has given its name to the entire coast, thanks to its rank as a free Marine Republic. That road that winds its way past old rocks and ancient temples, past geological and artistic beauties, has been loved and sung by writers, painted, photographed, praised in all forms of human expression. But like all great works in which nature and culture combine, there is always a simpler form of language which is handed down from generation to generation, expressing the sense of discovery: wonder, a universal feeling, that spares neither simple hearts nor the most sophisticated of intellectuals.
