WORK

For centuries, Polesine has also meant everyday toil. Hard work, not always sufficient to survive.
A long history with anonymous protagonists, the farmers, who often had to salvage the land from the water, as flood after flood reduced their fields to squalid marshes or even swamps.

A hard life that has left its eloquent mark in the museums of peasant civilization, now that the countryside is afflicted by depopulation. No easier was the lige of the fishermen and the folk who kept the fish hatcheries in the delta area.

But fishing and aquaculture (especially mussel breeding) are an important factor in today's economy in Polesine, along with market gardening.
