INVITATION TO THE ZERI VALLEYS |

| For centuries the Zeri valleys , in Ludigiana, were isolated by the mountain chains of the Apennines joining Tuscany, Liguria and Emilia. The people of Zeri are of very ancient origin and are certainly the purest heirs of the Ligurian peoples of the Apuan group. However there are very few historic facts to go by, so it is impossible to trace a certain picture of the old history of these valleys.
Certainly the history of Zeri cannot be dissociated from the events concerning Pontremoli which changed hands many times over the centuries, being governed by the Malaspina family, the Bishops of Luni and the rulers of Genoa, Lucca and Pisa. Life here followed the rhythms and cycles of nature and every family was self-sufficient. Here, more than in other valleys, there still remains something of this inner, autonomous balance, achieved in days of old and maintained for many centuries without any substantial changes. It is this natural, human and cultural integrity that is most pleasing. It is only recently that the fulcrum of the new economy has started to exploit the "snow-patrimony", building modern ski lift facilities at Zum Zeri
