WHAT TO SEE

As well as the visions of seaside landscapes and the natural beauties of the Barbagia countryside, the "planet" of the province of Nuoro, island within an island, offers disenchanted tourists and visitors the chance to get to know the fortified settlements of the nuraghi, traces of old monuments of the past, folk museums, rituals and traditions still wrapped in mystery; the local cuisine offers plenty of fine delicacies and many varieties of cakes and wines. The west coat is equally fascinating; the main town there is Bosa which has interesting relics of feudal times including the castle of the Malaspina family which, from its position on a hill, dominates the whole plain, divided by the river Temo. Bosa is famous for its "filet", fine artistic hand embroidery, which depicts typical Sardinian figures and symbols, for coral fishing, goldsmithry and filigree work; it is also renowned for its wines, scented Vernaccia, Malvasia and Girò. Woven baskets of asphodel are made at Tinnura, Flussio and Magomadas. Any tourist starting off from Nuoro who wants to reach the capital of the Planargia must not fail to visit the church of Santa Sabina at Silanus which dates back to the first half of the 11th century. In the town are the Romanesque Cistercian church of San Lorenzo (12th century), that of Sant'Antonio Abate (18th century), Santa Croce (17th century). It is really impossible to condense the illustration of the many aspects of the environment, nature, landscape, folklore, inexhaustible tradition and historical and archaeological wealth of the whole of the province of Nuoro. So it is worth taking the first plane or ship leaving for Sardinia and planning an exciting holiday in the province of Nuoro, choosing to suit your taste from the hundreds of itineraries available. The people, who are extraordinarily warm and hospitable, are ready to give you all the help you need.
