THE OTHER FACE OF SARDINIA |
|
Inaccessible mountains and forests, breath-taking cliffs over the sea, deserted plains where ruined castles appear like mirages, mysterious "nuraghi" (megalithic towers) and romanesque churches - these are landscapes of great beauty, but "off limits" for the normal tourist. The other face of Sardinia, far from the golden beaches of the Costa Smeralda and the tourist villages, attracts the few lovers of "alternative" holiday. And yet the interior of the island, hidden away from the "madding crowds" who flock every summer to the coasts, is worth more than one journey. Thanks to a series of initiatives promoted by a number of courageous entrepreneurs and the need to lengthen the tourist season in order to cover the so-called dead months, a new form of tourism has been developed with the aim of valorising the internal zones. Of course, if one wishes to visit the Sardinia of mountains and forest, one has to set out with a spirit of adventure and the desire to get to know the authentic soul of the Sardinians. The best way to explore the heart of the island is to follow the shepherds' paths, along the mule tracks and country roads. On foot, on horseback or by jeep, one can reach the most inaccessible zones.
