BEACHES

The coast, 14 kms long, appears like a charming, uninterrupted series of promontories, bays and fishing-harbours. Starting out from the beaches of Ciraccio and Ciracciello, you pass Punta Serra and Cottimo, then Marina Grande and Punta dei Monaci, and reach the small port of Corricella with the beach named Chiaia.

Then, going on to Punta Pizzaco and Punta Solchiaro, you finally get to the Chiaiolella, a charming natural harbour where motor-boats and pleasure crafts are at anchor amidst fisherboats.Opposite the Chiaiolella there is the islet of Vivara, after which a famous perfume is named. Vivara has been declared "an untouchable place", a sort of "natural park" within the Gulf of Naples and a paradise of birds.

Rabbits are still to be found there in the wild state. A "salmi of rabbit", well matched by the tasty white wine produced on Procida itself, is a favourite dish on this island.
