LAGOON - LAGOON SHALLOWS

In addition to the beach and the sea, the lagoon and the shallows represent Caorle's most important heritage.

There are thousands of acres of beds of reeds and peaceful stretches of water where nature has remained untouched, where the only noise is that of oars skimming through the water or birds chasing each other in the sky or through the reeds.

Dotted here and there are the "casoni", the old reed houses made by the lagoon fishermen and representing unusual historical and architectural features. It is just impossible to describe the shallows - they must be discovered personally, just as Ernest Hemingway did. He fell in love with them to such an extent that he came here very often and lived in a house in the shallows, on the pretext of going shooting, but in actual fact to seek out a quiet corner where he wrote some of his finest lines.
